What do archaeologists
do?
-
WE RETRIEVE THE PAST
- This involves recovering data and
contextual information on site (Survey and
Excavation)
- We record, preserve and analyse
archaeological materials (stratigraphical
relations of physical remains, and the
artifacts and samples within their
contexts): (Post-excavation work)
-
WE STUDY HUMAN SOCIETIES IN THEIR NATURAL
ENVIRONMENTS
-
ENVIRONMENTAL ARCHAEOLOGY:
- We recover evidence for people's
interaction with their environments and
the use of natural resources in the
past
- Plant and animal remains can be
retrieved and provide information on
food production, diet and health
-
ARCHAEOLOGY OF EVERYDAY LIFE:
- We retrieve and study building
materials and craft technologies which
helped to provide shelter, improve
lifestyles and create artifacts in the
past-and still could do so today!
-
WE PRESENT THE PAST
- ARCHAEOLOGY AND THE PUBLIC: We help
preserve and present archaeological sites
and information to the public In doing so,
we explore different approaches to valuing
heritage
