The Beirut-Naqoura line, was part of the
original Haifa - Beirut standard gauge line built by the British
forces in Palestine inaugurated for military traffic between
Haifa and Beirut in August of 1942. The line was taken over by the
Lebanese government as part of their aquisition of the entire
Naqoura-Tripoli line in 1946. The line was only ever used thereafter
for transport of oil products from the MEDRECO refinery at Zahrani
to the electricity plants further north.
