Tapline began operations at its Mediterranean terminal at Sidon on December 2, 1950, when four tankers were loaded with 723,334 barrels of Saudi Arabian crude oil in less than 20 hours. The tankers to take the first deliveries, as shown left to right, were the Sunset, 112,458 barrels; the Kentucky, 204,708 barrels; the T. S. Petersen, 201,924 barrels; and Olympic Laurel, 204,244 barrels. B. E. Hull, Tapline president, is shown turning the control valve which began the flow of oil to the tankers offshore. The two individual tankers pictured below show T. S. Petersen (top) and Olympic Laurel.
