i3maar Beirut - Beirut reconstruction
Every now and then on SCL a question is raised as to the rebuilding of downtown
Beirut and the formation of the reconstruction company. A new booklet (8"x10")
was put out by the Board of Founders (SOLIDERE) which provides some isnight into
the questions raised. It starts with the legal side of the issue,
and discusses the technicalities of the project and the different options
considered or never considered. The title of the publication is
"i3maar Beirut: wasT al-tasa'oulat", and it was first released in March 1993.
Below is the table of contents providing an idea on what to expect out of it.
In addition to this table, three pages were scanned and are to follow
this article in 3 seperate postings. The names of the files are indicated
below along with their contents. It is to be noted that all of these
files are uuencoded JPG (JPEG) files. This format was used so as to
reduce the size of the files as compared to GIF. The files still maintain
a very acceptable resolution even when 2X magnification is used to view
some of the finer writtings. These files were tested on a PC with 800x600
VGA graphics, as well, and no difference from that of the unix was noticed.
