I wonder what the Ashoura is like today. I am just looking at an album with four small snapshots I took in 1931 or 1932. One shows the men in their shrouds and their bloodied heads. Another has several children, presumably fleeing, on a single camel. The third is of Maowiya's (sp. ?) general in full chain mail. I do not know the significance of the fourth---two or three men leading a mule or horse. As best I can describe it the horse is wearing a "hooded coat"---a white cloth over its back ending in a hood with carefully shaped room for the ears and holes for the eyes.
