Probably about 200 miles of the main pipe line route will cross country very similar to this if the "Prospectus" route to finally selected. The party at this time consisted of Wolfe, Johnson, and Bramkamp In a Ford Sedan., and an Arab driver with a 4 x 4 Army truck carrrying a minimum of cots and provisions. The Diamond "T" semi-trailer carrying 40 drums of gasoline had been dispatched ahead.

Camp for the night was made on the "Qara'a", some 20 kilometers east of the abandoned Jauf wildcat well. The pipe line route will probabl.y cross

50 miles of this kind of territory, which is a flat plain covered with sand too coarse to blow and underlain with gypsum. At the time of this reconnaissance, the Qara'a was covered with short grass perhaps 3 or 4 inches high, although an observer seeing it in other months of the year would be convinced that it could support no vegetable growth at all.

On May 1the party made an early start and reached the now abandoned wildcat well in the middle of the morning. This is situated In dikaka country, although there Is Qara'a to the east and west. Most of the drilling equipment, aswell as the portable steel houses used by the drilling crew, had been removed, but an Arab watchman and a few soldiers together with their families, were still stationed at the water well a little distance away from the wildcat oil well. Here the party stopped for coffee In the watchman's barasti.

West of Jauf the road runs out of the dikaka and after passing through more Qara'a, reaches the Dibdiba gravel plains. At this time of the year these gravel plains were quite green In the sags and on this account did not appear quiteso flat as they, had when viewed at a time of the year when there was less grass to delineate the low places.
