After passing the Darb Zubeda, the flight left the pipe line route and proceeded to the gasoline cache which, as previously explained, had been left at Duwaid. Refueling with a balky hand pump took about two hours and attracted a curious group of Iraqis who converged on the party from two directions and examined all parts of the airplane with interest, even measuring it by hand and arm spans to see how large it was.
