TRANS-ARABIAN PIPE LINE COMPANY Sidon Terminal |
|
Location: | 1068.2 miles or 1720 kilometers from Abqaiq Station as measured along the pipe line. The Terminal is on the Mediterranean shore in Lebanon about 35 miles south of Beirut, and 5 miles south of the ancient port town of Sidon. Elevation: 0-400 feet above sea level. |
Crude Oil and Crude Storage Bunkering Tankage: | Thirteen 180,000 barrel
floating roof tanks at 360-370 foot elevation. One 25,000 barrel cone roof slop tank. |
Bunkering Storage & Gauging: | Three 180,000 barrel floating roof tanks at an elevation Of 280 feet. Three 14,000 barrel cone roof gauging tanks near shore line. |
Main Line Back Pressure Control: | The pipe line drops sharply in altitude as it approaches the Sidon Terminal; in the last twenty miles there is a drop of almost 1500 feet. To prevent the line from running partially empty in the approach section and to minimize the effect of resulting surges, a back pressure control system has been installed at the Terminal. This installation consists of twelve 3-inch friction tube bundles each 40 feet -in length connected in parallel. Depending on the rate of flow, one or more friction tube bundles are opened or closed to maintain a desired back pressure control. |
Offloading Control and The Tank Farm: | Tank Farm valves are remotely controlled from a central
board in the Tank Farm Control House. Crude oil offloading to ships is remotely controlled from a central board in the Shore Manifold Control House. |
